Elden Ring guide: Smithing stone locations

Elden Ring smithing stones are a consumable item that allows you to upgrade your weapons at a smithing table, which you can find in the Church of Elleh, or Smithing Master Hewg at the Table of Lost Grace. In this Elden Ring smithing stone guide, we’ll help you find a ton of early game smithing stones in West Limgrave and Liurnia.

Among the giants east of Stormhill Shack

In West Limgrave, head east from the Stormhill Shack site of grace, and you’ll eventually find yourself on a cliff overlooking a field. There are trolls everywhere, as well as a strange glowing statue. That statue is filled with smithing stones.

Head down into the field, and get the attention of a giant. Move to the glowing statue. When the troll attacks you, avoid or block its attack. It’ll hit and break the statue, and you can grab many glowing smithing stones from the wreckage.

East of the trolls

Just east of the field filled with giants, there’s yet another cliff. Hop down that cliff, and big text will tell you that you’ve left Stormhill and reentered Limgrave.

A corpse with a smithing stone on a rock in Limgrave — Search this body, and you’ll get a smithing stone. Look for that L-shaped ruin in the distance to orient yourself.

Pillage the corpse at the location above, and you’ll get a smithing stone. Just watch out because, depending on how you get here, trolls may follow you.

Limgrave Tunnels

Elden Ring’s West Limgrave map is full of hidden dungeons, caves, and catacombs, but none is a better smithing stone farming location than Limgrave Tunnels, which is located south of the Gatefront Ruins in West Limgrave.

Narratively, it’s a smithing stone mine. It’s not a terribly difficult dungeon. The enemies are weak to both magic and strike damage.

Be sure to spin your camera around while you’re riding the elevators to make sure you’re not missing anything.

South of Dragon-Burnt Ruins, east of The First Step

There’s a bottomless pit south of Dragon-Burnt Ruins, the lake in the southeast of West Limgrave. It’s also east of The First Step site of grace. Look for a bunch of crucifix-like horrors to narrow down your location. Find a nearby corpse, and loot it for a smithing stone.

Raya Lucaria Crystal Tunnel, North Liurnia

After you defeat Godrick the Grafted in Stormveil Castle, you’ll head into a region called Liurnia. All the way on the northern shore of the region’s lake, there’s an optional dungeon called the Raya Lucaria Crystal Tunnel.

This is a very similar dungeon to the Limgrave Tunnels above. The enemies inside are much tougher, though, and the rewards are better. You’ll walk out with several smithing stones and somber smithing stones of various levels — by our count, there are at least 3 smithing stone [1], 5 smithing stone [2], 8 smithing stone [3], 1 somber smithing stone [1], 2 somber smithing stone [2], and 2 somber smithing stone [3].

More importantly, you’ll receive a Smithing Stone Miner’s Bell Bearing when you defeat the dungeon’s boss, Crystalian. Take that to the Twin Maiden Husks inside the Table of Lost Grace and you’ll unlock them as merchants. Now you’ll be able to buy smithing stone [1]s for 800 runes each and smithing stone [2]s for 1,600 runes each. They don’t seem to run out, so you can just keep coming back for more.
